The 2009 Season
During the 2009 season, 645 anglers caught and released 26 walleyes over 19 inches, 309 walleyes over 27 inches, 38 pike over 40 inches, and 42 bass over 19 inches. There were two major non-fishery related forces that heavily impacted fishing production for the 2009 season. The most significant was the weather. The summer of 2009 in Northwest Ontario was the summer that wasn’t. It was the coldest summer season in recent history and resulted in major changes to our typical fishing patterns. The other major impact was the economy. We began to see cancellations and reduced group sizes in 2008, but we had an additional 10% decline in guests in 2009.
